Neeraj Kaushal Appointed as Research Fellow by IZA

New York, NY – Dr. Neeraj Kaushal, associate professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work, has been appointed a Research Fellow by the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), the largest consortium of labor economists in Europe.

IZA is a private, independent research institute, which conducts nationally and internationally oriented labor market research. IZA combines economic theory and practice as a mediator between economists, politicians, and major players in the economy. Permanent employees and external economists, including more than 600 fellows and affiliates worldwide, cooperate on projects in all areas of labor economics and policy.

An economist by training, Dr. Kaushal’s research is focused on how policies and events affect the well-being of low-income families with special emphasis on immigrants. Her recent work includes the effect of the 1996 welfare reform on various aspects of immigrant well-being, the effect of amnesty on the labor market outcomes of legalized immigrants, and the effect of September 11th on New Yorkers and Arabs and Muslims living in the United States. Her research has been published in the Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Health Economics, Health Services Research, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Journal of Urban Economics, and Journal of Population Economics. She also writes for The Economic Times, India’s largest financial newspaper.
